No Place Like Home: Day Four

home sweet twilight zone

READ: Psalm 91:14, 1 John 4:4, Hebrews 11: 3

What happens when the “home sweet home” that you knew and loved gets turned upside down? Similar to the tornadoes we talked about earlier with Nicole, I too, experienced a cyclone of sorts. When I was four, my parents got divorced and my dad moved away. The family home with the white picket fence might as well have been taken out by a twister at that exact moment. Inevitably, from that moment on, I had a distorted image and shattered opinion of God.

It is sometimes difficult to cling to your Heavenly Father when your earthly father leaves the building and hits the pavement. Just another casualty to the evil force that is divorce. Lucky for us, though, God has no plans for separation or dissolution in His plans for us. He will never walk away from His children and He will always remain a good, good Father.

Just as the disciple John lovingly points out in his letters at the end of the New Testament, we are God’s little children. He loves us and cares for us so much that He sent His only Son to take the place we so rightfully deserved so that we will never know an eternity apart from Him. We are the Children of God, and no storm that comes will ever change that.

Scripture to Meditate: You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. - 1 John 4:4

1. What storms have you encountered within your own life that have left you questioning God?

2. What reminders in Scripture can you cling to when the world sends you a cyclone?

3. Which storms have you encountered in your life that have deepened your faith in God?

4. If you are a child of divorce or have experienced the pain of divorce as a spouse, give one (or two) burdens to the Lord in your quiet time this week and trade your pain for His unending love and grace.

Lord, I lift up the woman reading this to you. I ask that You cover her with your love and mercy. I pray that You fill her heart with peace and her mind with Truth of Your love for her. Help keep the woman reading this grounded in Your Word and keep her eyes focused on the plans You have for her, Lord. Heal the wounds that her past has inflicted upon her. Remind her and reassure her that she is a new creation in Your eyes! Be with her and go before her as she runs the race You have set before her. Amen.
