I spend a lot of my time at the kitchen sink, sometimes staring blankly out my window as I wash dishes for the fifteenth time that day! It’s where I find my mind can stop and just “be”. It’s honestly the place where I hear the Lord speak to me the most, probably because my own thoughts are slowed and less distracted, and I just have more “space” to hear HIS thoughts.

As I have learned this about myself, that the kitchen sink is where my thoughts have more room, I am realizing that this is a really good place to be purposeful with what I’m listening to since my head seems clearer.

So, I have started writing out scripture and putting it right in front of me, stuck on the kitchen window for me stare at, contemplate, memorize, and pray about as I wash. When you are doing something as monotonous as washing a ton of sippy cups over and over, it’s a good opportunity to find a focus.

And finding one that is uplifting and encouraging is so beneficial. Especially in this busy season of life, and the holidays now upon us, it is so important to fill our heads with life-giving things.

So here is a practical for you this season:

Find a spot in your house that you are near or walk by a lot throughout the day. Or a place where you know you can be a little less distracted. It may be the kitchen sink, or the laundry room, or the nursery where you spend hours feeding your newborn.

Somewhere in that place, stick a simple encouragement on the wall. Write out a scripture or word from the Lord that you know will bring you peace. Even if it just a reminder to yourself about WHY we celebrate during the holidays so that you don’t get caught up in the busyness of it all, then write that out to put in front of you. Look at it, repeat it, memorize it, and meditate on it.

This isn’t about memorizing scripture or words for memorization’s sake. It is about letting Truth really soak in. So, I thought I would share a few good scriptures and words that might be great to have around, if you need a place to start.

“God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God will help her when her morning dawns…” -Psalm 46:5
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” -1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” -John 1:14
“You’re a good, good Father. It’s who You are. And I am loved by you.” -Bethel Worship
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” -John 3:16
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” -Psalm 46:1
“What peace we often forfeit, what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.” -What a Friend We Have in Jesus
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future” -Proverbs 31:25
“He rescued me, because He delighted in me.” -Psalm 18:19

While as mothers, we don’t always have hours to just sit and meditate on scripture and words of the Lord…we CAN create spaces, in our home and in our heads, to let Truth in.

Blessings to you this season, sweet mamas.
